Employees who may have feared they are out of work following a fire at a shrimp processing facility in Black Duck Cove on Wednesday night, May 15, won’t have to worry, according to the company that owns the facility.
Gulf Shrimp Ltd. issued a press release this morning, May 16, saying they will the production line workers and staff impacted by the fire to other processing facilities in the province.
“Employment will require temporary relocation, however, the company will provide accommodation and relocation allowances to for all of its employees to ensure they secure meaningful employment,” the release read.
The company said the facility they operate in Old Perlican, on the Avalon Peninsula, can accommodate the entire Black Duck Cove workforce. The release also said they will ensure all of the fishing enterprises they deal with won’t have any disruption to their services.
“Our immediate priority will focus on the displaced workers at Black Duck Cove,” the release said. “We know this will be challenging for our employees but at times like this we know we can overcome even the greatest of threats when we collectively are determined to do so.”
