ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — At Admiral’s Academy School in Kelligrews, Alyssa Dawe, 6, will receive a prize package from RCMP Assistant Commissioner Ches Parsons for her winning entry in the National 2019 RCMP “Name the Puppy Contest.”

Alyssa’s entry of the name “Mika” was one of 13 winners chosen from across the country. Parsons will be accompanied at the presentation by Staff Sgt. Bill Frisby and his K9 partner, Grinch.

The puppy named by Alyssa is currently in training.

A news release notes that while only time will tell if Mika goes on to become successful in the training program, Alyssa has personally given the puppy a great start to a career with the Police Dog Service.

Alyssa enjoys skating, gymnastics, riding her bike, reading Robert Munsch books, math and gym class.

She said she chose the name Mika because her older sister, Ella, has a friend with the same name and she really likes it.
