It’s still too early to start refilling the pool at Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook, but Mayor Jim Parsons said the process that could see the mothballed facility reopened is proceeding.
Parsons said the request for proposals on concept and design work for the revitalization of the pool, with an aim to creating a regional aquatic centre at the university, has resulted in the submission of a couple of proposals.
Those proposals are in the evaluation process now and the contract should be awarded in the next couple of weeks. They look at conceptual design for the facility and costing for the development.
The costing would centre on the capital cost of the build and, while no operational arrangement has been decided on, it would also consider operational costs.
Corner Brook, Mount Moriah, Massey Drive, Steady Brook, the YMCA of Western Newfoundland, Humber Community and the Corner Brook Rapids Swim Club all contributed to the initial feasibility study on a new pool that was enacted last year.
That study was started before the Grenfell option became available, and since then some of the original resources have been used to pursue the Grenfell option, Parsons said.
