ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — John Hogan, the Liberal candidate running against Progressive Conservative Leader John Crosbie in Windsor Lake, said Monday that Crosbie should apologize to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador for the Muskrat Falls project.

“Mismanagement, confirmation bias, and a lack of political courage by the PC Party has placed our province in a difficult position, yet Mr. Crosbie has never apologized on behalf of his party,” Hogan said in a news release.

Hogan said that, as a lawyer representing consumers at the Commission of Inquiry into the Muskrat Falls Project, he was “appalled daily by what he heard” and the experience and expertise he gained at the inquiry is one of the reasons he is running in this election.

Hogan said the provincial Liberal government under Andrew Furey had established a cabinet committee on the implementation of the recommendations of the inquiry report.

When asked about the comments, Crosbie said in a statement that in 2012 he and a number of other lawyers signed an open letter to the government of the day to submit the question of Muskrat Falls cost to the PUB for determination.

“The Liberal government has been responsible for Muskrat Falls for five years now, while executives who deceived government received exorbitant bonuses, costs skyrocketed, schedules were missed, and rate mitigation talks collapsed without explanation,” Crosbie said. “By not firing these deceptive bonus-loving executives, Premier Furey is tolerating the intolerable yet again.”

Crosbie said his party has committed to implementing all the recommendations from the inquiry.
