The RNC is conducting a search for evidence today in the Mount Scio Road area of St. John's.

RNC media relations officer Const. Steve Curnew told reporters during a news conference this afternoon there are suspects in the case but no arrests have been made.

The RNC major crime unit believes people close to Pitcher, who was found dead in a Paradise subdivision last summer, are responsible.

"We have enough information through the investigation to believe the two are connected," Curnew said.

Police believe Whalen is a victim of homicide as well.  He was last seen on Cabot Street in St. John's, however his body hasn’t been found.

Investigators have uncovered a lot of evidence in both cases.

Curnew said as a result of more than 250 interviews, officers have concluded there are some common denominators in both cases but he wouldn't release what they are.

He said they held a news conference at this point to try to generate some information about the cases. They have set up a dedicated email and phone line to the investigations.

The number for the tip line is 729-8900 and the email is [email protected]

A number of searches will be conducted in coming weeks.

The Telegram will have more details as they become available.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary will be providing an update this afternoon on the Robert Pitcher death investigation as well as the Josh Whalen missing person investigation.

The RNC will brief local media in St. John's on both cases at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon.

Pitcher’s body was discovered in Paradise in July last year.

The RNC said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner considered the death of Pitcher, 31, with a history of getting in trouble with the law, to be suspicious.
