ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A 34-year-old man's getaway from a police traffic stop was thwarted when by traffic Sunday evening in St. John's.

Around the dinner hour, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the Pennywell Road area. The driver refused to stop and attempted to evade police officers until he himself became stuck in traffic.

The accused was arrested and charged under the criminal code with flight from police, unlawfully possessing break in instruments and breaching court orders. The man was also ticketed for under the highway traffic act for driving while suspended, improper passing and failure to notify the registrar of change of address. 

He is being held for a court appearance today
