An early Tuesday morning house fire has displaced one person and caused extensive damage to the home’s basement.
St. John’s Regional fire department acting platoon chief Gerry O’Neill told the Telegram that they received the call of smoke coming from the house at about 1:30 a.m. On arrival, firefighters entered the house with attack lines but they had some initial difficulty locating the fire.
O’Neill said when they eventually found the blaze in the home’s furnace room, it was knocked down but not before the basement suffered fire, smoke and water damage.
The rest of the home was also damaged by fire.
The female owner was the only person home at the time and she got out safely.
There were no injuries.
