ST. JOHN’S — Eastern Health CEO and president David Diamond has had his contract extended until the end of 2021.

The Board of Trustees of Eastern Health made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.

Leslie O’Reilly, chair of the board, said in a news release that Diamond has led Eastern Health in a positive direction over the past five years.

“His approach is one of collaboration and transparency and the board is confident that, under his leadership, Eastern Health will continue to advance in a positive direction,” O’Reilly said in the release.

Diamond started as president and CEO in November 2014.

In the release, Diamond said it was an easy decision to remain with the health authority for a second term.

“For the past five years, I have enjoyed my work at Eastern Health immensely and I have the privilege of working with skilled and caring staff and physicians who are dedicated to making progress in all areas of the organization.”

Eastern Health is the largest, integrated health authority in Newfoundland and Labrador employing approximately 13,000 people and 600 medical staff, serving a population of over 300,000 people.
