LEWISPORTE, NL — The continuing effort to develop a regional fire service was discussed at the Oct. 10 meeting of the Lewisporte Town Council.
Lewisporte Fire Rescue Chief Rob Fudge said the local fire department is on board with the initiative, as are most of the other fire departments in the eight communities that make up the region.
The initiative is back in the hands of elected officials now to determine how to move forward. That is anticipated to take until early in the new year to work out the details and to have agreements ready to sign.
“When regionalization goes ahead we will have the biggest fire department in Newfoundland with over 120 members,” Fudge said.
The effort to regionalize fire services locally will make this the third regional fire department in the province.
