ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — St. John's region voters isolating due to potential exposure to the COVID-19 virus will be able to cast their ballot from their cars on election day.
Elections Newfoundland and Labrador is establishing a drive-thru isolation voting station — modelled after the COVID-19 testing sites — in the Confederation Building's west block parking lot. The site was chosen because of its size, which should allow minimal disruptions to area traffic.
The alternative option is open only to people in isolation and will be open from 8 a.m to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13.
Identification will be mandatory for this voting process, an oath will be required and the names and addresses of all voters will be recorded for contact tracing purposes.
As for everyone else, Elections NL says the election will continue as scheduled with all polls open 8 a.m to 8 p.m. (7:30 a.m. to 7:30 in most of Labrador.)
