FORTUNE, N.L. — With a number of summer festivals scheduled for the Burin Peninsula, organizers with the Feller from Fortune International Festival say that plans for the annual event are falling into place.

Mayor Charles Penwell told The Southern Gazette on Tuesday, July 30, that some residents now living away from the community will be home for the annual festival.

“As far as we know there is a fair number on the go and planning on being here,” he said.

Some of the events scheduled throughout the three-day event include a dinner theatre, parade of lights and a comedy show by Jimmy Flynn.

“Nothing new this year,” explained Penwell. “We sort of built on last year and the co-operation with the Grand Bank Theatre seems to be going well. That went over really well last year, so we going to try it again this year.”

He added that the dinner theatre performance will be a unique show from those being performed during the Grand Bank Regional Theatre Festival.

Penwell said that preparations for the event are underway in the town.

“We’re trying to set up stages and stuff like that and get things prepared in the arena and outdoors.”

The Feller from Fortune International Festival kicks off on Friday, Aug. 9 with “The IT Factor” a musical performance by Grand Bank Regional Theatre.

A full list of events can be for on the Feller from Fortune International Festival event page on Facebook.
