Fire destroys barn in Portugal Cove-St. Philip's

This two-storey home located on Somerton’s Lane in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s was destroyed in a blaze just after 12:30 on Wednesday. There were several occupants living in the home at the time the blaze broke out that were able to escape without injuries. The Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s Fire Department, paramedics and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary were on scene dealing with the blaze which they were able to contain to the one home despite the high winds blowing around the fire. The cause of the fire is not known at this time.

A structure fire destroyed a barn in Portugal Cove-St. Philip's Sunday evening.
The Portugal Cove-St. Phillip’s Fire Department responded to a call around 7:15 p.m.
They found the barn on fire when they arrived, but were unable to save the structure.
There were no injuries and there was no displacement of any residents due to the fire.
The blaze is under investigation by the RNC.
