Firefighters were called to a kitchen fire Monday morning on Murphy’s Lane in St. John’s.
The fire was reported by a passerby at about 7:45 a.m. when the person spotted smoke coming from a window of a basement unit of the home.
When firefighters arrived, they located a fire in the kitchen near the rear entrance and made quick work of the blaze.
The fire caused damage to the kitchen area and firefighters could be seen throwing burned debris out a window.
There was no one home at the time of the incident.
