PORTUGAL COVE-ST. PHILLIP’S, N.L. — Firefighters from the Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s Volunteer Fire Department responded to a suspicious fire in the town Tuesday night.
The blaze was reported by a passerby traveling down Witch Hazel Road who spotted something burning in an abandoned building.
When the firefighters arrived on scene, they found a number of fires in a former pig farm barn.
The blazes were quickly knocked down, with only some fire damage to the derelict structure.
PCSP volunteer fire department chief Fred Hollett told the Telegram there was no power to the building and that the fire was being investigated by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
