ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — First responders were successful in talking an individual down from a ledge in downtown St. John's this morning.

Emergency crews were called to the BMO Financial Group building at the corner of Water St. and McBride's Hill around 8 a.m. where an individual on the roof had threatened to harm himself.

St. John's Regional Fire Department personnel sort out their rescue gear before leaving the scene on Duckworth Street where a number of their vehicles were positioned.

Royal Newfoundland Contabulary crews quickly cordoned off the area as the situation unfolded.

Just before 9 a.m., first responders were able to bring the situation to a successful ending when they assessed the individual on the roof and firefighters using a harness were able to bring the individual down inside the bank via a roof hatch at which time he was taken to hospital by Eastern Health paramedics.

A witness told The Telegram that the individual was seen near the edge of the roof and paramedics were visible on the roof on the roof as well.

An RNC spokesperson on the scene figured the individual made their way across the rooftops of a number of buildings before reaching the bank's roof.
