A trio of projects scheduled for Gros Morne National Park later this year come with a hefty price tag from the federal government.
In a release Wednesday, it was announced the UNESCO World Heritage site will receive some $27.5 million in funding for three repair projects in the park.
The one with the highest funding total is the planned replacement of bridges at Dicky’s Brook and Rocky Barachois. It comes in at $21.9 million and aims to provide Route 430 with sustainable infrastructure for the foreseeable future.
In January of this year, there was notable flooding on the west coast of the island which caused several communities to declare a state of emergency.
This flooding was the cause of significant damage in Gros Morne and the federal government is earmarking $5 million to help with repairs.
Those repairs will focus on repairing damage to the Mill Brook Bridge, the Barter’s Brook and Mackenzie Brook Forest Access Road bridges and repairs to Routes 430 and $31, as well as damages to the Mill Brook day-use area and damages to trails in the Lomond area.
Meanwhile, $590,000 will go towards the second phase of the Trout River bridge repair project.
