The Canadian Red Cross is looking for volunteers to join its teams serving St. John’s and the Avalon Peninsula, as well as other communities throughout the province, to help people impacted by smaller-scale events like residential fires or larger disasters and emergencies.
An example of the Red Cross’s work came Monday afternoon in St. John’s after three people — a couple and their son — were temporarily displaced by a fire that damaged their half of a duplex on Brookfield Road.
There were no injuries, but Red Cross volunteers helped the family with emergency lodging and purchases like food and some other basics.
