ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — One man was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries following and apparent high-speed collision with a traffic light on Kenmount Road early Thursday morning.
The crash happened just after 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of Kelsey Drive and Kenmount and left the car with extensive damage and with a section of the traffic pole lying underneath the vehicle.
It appears the vehicle was traveling eastbound at a rate of speed high enough to tear the light pole from its concrete mount and drag it another fifty meters over the median before the car came to a stop facing the direction it had come from.
The road was closed in the area until the scene could be cleared.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating the incident.
