HOLYROOD, N.L. — Suspected early morning cannabis consumption landed one man behind bars and facing impaired driving charges earlier this week.
Monday morning, Holyrood RCMP was alerted of a potentially impaired driver by an off-duty colleague who happened to be driving behind a truck emitting a strong smell of marijuana.
When the vehicle was located and stopped in Holyrood a short time later, police noted the strong odour and open cannabis inside the cab.
The RCMP says roadside sobriety testing on the driver showed signs of impairment by drug and he was arrested. Police conducted further drug influence evaluations and are awaiting lab results to finalize charges.
Police found the open cannabis belonged to a 34-year-old passenger, who was ticketed for the offense.
The driver was issued a driver’s license suspension and the truck was seized and impounded.
