CORNER BROOK, N.L. — The Humber Valley man charged with multiple sex offences, along with charges stemming from a standoff with police last week, has been released from jail.

The Western Star is not identifying the man because of a court-ordered publication ban that prohibits the reporting of information that could identify a victim in the case.

The 10 charges against him include four counts of sexual assault involving four different offence dates in 2018. He is also charged with common assault in relation to two of those dates.

The other charges include two counts of mischief to property on separate dates in 2018 and single counts of uttering threats to kill and unlawful storage of a firearm in relation to last week’s seven-hour standoff.

The man had been in custody since his arrest following the standoff. The Crown had been opposed to letting him out of jail until a release plan with certain conditions could be worked out.

That plan was finally agreed upon in time for the man’s appearance at provincial court in Corner Brook Tuesday afternoon. He was released on a recognizance with two sureties posting bonds in the amounts of $1,000 and $5,000 respectively.

His release conditions include residing at a specified address, abiding by a curfew, abstaining from alcohol and non-prescription drugs and having no direct contact with any of the victims.

His case will next be called in court April 2.
