Forteau RCMP have charged two people with impaired driving — one of the cases dating back to July 2020.
The most recent case has resulted in a 50-year-old Forteau man being charged with impaired driving after breath samples indicated alcohol in his system more than two-and-half times the legal limit.
The man was stopped by police on Feb. 17. At approximately 8 p.m., Forteau RCMP received a report of a suspected impaired driver. A patrol was made and the described vehicle was located in L’Anse-au-Loup.
The driver failed a roadside breath test and was arrested for impaired driving, and transported to the detachment for further analysis.
He was released from custody to appear in court at a later date. His driver’s license was suspended and his truck was seized and impounded.
On July 27, 2020, shortly before 10 p.m., Forteau RCMP responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 510 near the Pinware Bridge.
The driver, who was injured during the crash, was transported to the Labrador South Health Centre in Forteau for medical attention.
He showed signs of alcohol impairment and police provided him with a blood demand. The blood sample was sent for analysis and the results came back last week indicating that the man’s blood sample was above the legal limit at the time of the crash.
Forteau RCMP are following up now with charges of impaired driving against the Red Bay man.
