A former Member of Parliament announced he is coming out of retirement.
Jack Harris, the former MP for St. John’s East announced Monday afternoon he will be seeking the nomination for the New Democratic Party in the riding for this fall’s federal election.
“It was an honour to represent the residents of St. John’s East in Parliament and I am very encouraged by the large number of voters who have urged me to run again,” Harris said in a news release Monday afternoon.
“I look forward to the upcoming nomination meeting to be held on June 18 and I am excited about the possibility of running in the next election,” he added.
Harris served the federal district from October 2008 through October 2015 and also 1987-88.
He is the former official Opposition critic for National Defence and was provincial NDP leader for his home province of Newfoundland and Labrador from 1992-2006.
The general election is set for Oct. 21
