ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The counting continues at Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court in St. John’s, as lawyers work to confirm who is the MHA for Labrador West.

More than 60 ballots have been set aside for additional review by lawyers and Judge David Orsborn, to determine if the election night result will stand.

The five-vote margin was confirmed twice by Elections Newfoundland and Labrador. Now, lawyers will review the ballots they’ve set aside for review, to determine whether any additional votes should be rejected or any rejected ballots admitted.

Each ballot set aside will be reviewed by four lawyers – one for each of the three political parties involved and one for the chief electoral officer – and arguments heard by Orsborn.

Orsborn will make the final decision on any changes to the election night vote count.

Should the judicial recount overturn the election night result, Liberal Graham Letto would become MHA for Labrador West again, returning Premier Dwight Ball’s Liberals to a majority government.

NDP candidate Jordan Brown says he is “pretty confident” the result will not be overturned.

The recount resumes Friday at Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court in St. John’s.
