LORD’S COVE, N.L.
The provincial government announced Nov. 30 that it would be entering into a
cost-sharing project with the Town of Lord’s Cove to help expand wireless
coverage to the town and surrounding communities.
Carol Anne Haley, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women and MHA for
Burin - Grand Bank, announced on behalf of the Minister of Tourism, Culture,
Industry and Innovation Christopher Mitchelmore that the province would be
contributing over $25,000 to the project.
With a total project cost estimated at over $102,000, Bell, which will be
responsible for building the infrastructure in the community, as well as any future
maintenance of the equipment, will contribute $60,000, with the remainder of
the monies need coming from the Town of Lord’s Cove.
In a release issued by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and
Innovation Nov.30, Lord’s Cove Mayor Bob Hennebury said he is pleased to know
that residents and visitors to the town will now be able to get service throughout
the community.
͞This can have nothing but a positive impact on our community,͟ he said in the
release. ͞For anyone looking to settle in Lord’s Cove, or set up any sort of
business, cell coverage today is a must. We appreciate the efforts of our MHA,
Carol Anne Haley, for working with us to make this a reality.͟
Glen LeBlanc, Vice Chair Atlantic for Bell Canada was also quoted in the release.
͞Bell is proud to continue delivering broadband wireless access to underserved
communities in Newfoundland and Labrador through this new investment
partnership with the Town of Lord’s Cove and the provincial government,͟ read
the statement. ͞Expanding access to Bell’s advanced broadband infrastructure
will support new opportunities for residents and businesses alike in Lord’s Cove
and the broader region.͟
