A man who turned himself in to police after they issued a public warning that he was dangerous made an appearance in provincial court in St. John’s Wednesday.
Michael Follett, 26, is facing seven charges related to robberies at TD Bank on Gibson Street in Mount Pearl and at Needs Convenience on Merrymeeting Road in St. John’s earlier this week.
Follett agreed to remain in custody until his next court date, Dec. 13.
He has a significant amount of unrelated charges already before the court. He is accused of threatening a woman and assaulting her twice in September 2017 and stealing from a Dominion store in St. John’s last February, and faces multiple charges related to break-ins and an attempted break-in at Islander RV and Rentals last August. Follett is also facing a number of charges of breaching court orders.
Police allege Follett entered the TD Bank branch Sunday afternoon with his face masked and carrying a knife. After demanding money, he fled with an undisclosed amount.
Needs Convenience was robbed about 8:45 the next morning, and the RNC says Follett is responsible for that robbery, too.
Police have also said they believe Follett is connected to a robbery at the Irving Circle K gas station on Waldegrave Street in downtown St. John’s shortly after 9 p.m. that night, though he has not been charged in relation to that incident.
Follett is said to have turned himself in at RNC Headquarters around suppertime Tuesday, not long after police issued a public appeal for information about his whereabouts. Police said Follett was a danger to the public and urged anyone who could help them find him to come forward.
