A 25-year-old man will be back in court in St. John’s next week in connection with a standoff with police on Kennedy Road Monday.
Jason Earle made a short appearance before a judge on Tuesday, when the new date was set. He’s charged with uttering threats, assault with a weapon, six firearm offences and two breaches of court orders.

Police were called to a home on Kennedy Road around 9 a.m. Monday, and spent about an hour and a half with weapons drawn, and officers talking with Earle through an open window in the basement apartment. Earle is said to have given himself up and was escorted out of the home and taken to hospital.
It’s not Earle’s first time before the court, nor his first alleged standoff. In the fall of 2016, he was charged after an armed standoff with police at his Barachois Street home during which he reportedly fired shots at officers. He was also charged after he escaped custody and spent nine days on the run in 2011, earning himself a three-month prison sentence.
