A man was scheduled to appear in court on Sunday after hitting two police officers with his vehicle in Corner Brook.
The incident began just before 2 a.m. Friday in the Westside area of Corner Brook when Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) officers did a traffic stop with an illegally parked vehicle.
Police say that during the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle drove off, striking two police officers in the process. Police say the officers were not injured.
According to the police report, additional units patrolled the city until they found the vehicle parked on Connor’s Road in the Curling area. However, as officers approached the suspect, he drove away again.
Officers again tried to locate the vehicle, but were unsuccessful.
The report says the driver was identified during the initial traffic stop, so an arrest warrant was issued.
On Saturday around 12:30 p.m., Royal Canadian Mounted Police located the man in Deer Lake. According to the police report, he was arrested without incident and turned over to the RNC. He was scheduled for court on Sunday.
The man was charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer with a weapon (a vehicle) and flight from police.
