Man arrested on assault charges ends up with fine under cannabis control act

A 41-year-old man arrested in the Thorburn Road area of St. John’s in relation to an assault also wound up being ticketed under the newly minted Cannabis Control Act.

When Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers arrived on alleged assault to find the suspect had fled on foot. When police located the man a short distance away, he was found to be in possession of a quantity of cannabis exceeding the 30-gram limit in a public place.

The accused was issued a summary offence ticket under the act.
