ST. JOHN'S, N.L. —
A man accused of ordering a child sex doll in the mail suddenly collapsed on the floor while testifying at his trial at provincial court in St. John’s today.
It happened at around 11:30 a.m. while Kenneth Harrisson was being cross-examined.
Harrisson had to wait more than 40 minutes for the paramedics to arrive after there was a miscommunication in the courtroom about who would call 911. The call was placed roughly 30 minutes after he collapsed.
While prosecutor Bill Howse was waiting for a response to one of his questions regarding the online order, Harrisson remained silent and then fell over. A loud thump could be heard in the courtroom.
RNC Const. Terry Follett and Harrison’s lawyer Bob Buckingham rushed to his assistance. He was alert and was responding to Follett’s questions as he lay on the floor.
When paramedics finally arrived, Harrisson was taken to hospital. Harrison, who was sat upright in the stretcher, covered his head with his jacket as he was wheeled past reporters to the awaiting ambulance on Harbour Drive.
Lawyers told reporters that the trial will likely be postponed until Monday, at which time it will be determined if Harrisson is OK to continue testifying.
