ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has confirmed that the man critically injured in a serious incident at Bond Street and Feaver's Lane has succumbed to his injuries and died. 

Police say he was 23-years-old and the incident is not believed to be a random act.

The investigation into the matter continues.

At a news briefing at RNC headquarters this morning, Const. James Cadigan confirmed the victim's age but said the cause of death was still being determined in association with the Chief Medical Examiner. His identity is being withheld.

Police are asking anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage is asked to contact them to assist in the investigation. 


EARLIER STORY

One man has been taken to hospital following an apparent shooting or stabbing in the downtown area of St. John’s at the intersection of Bond Street and Feaver's Lane.

A gun was recovered on scene and residents in the area told the Telegram it appeared the man had been shot or stabbed. Initial reports from witnesses at the scene indicated that a shooting had occurred.

A large pool of blood could be seen in the area where the man was lying and paramedics from Eastern Health were seen performing CPR on the victim before he was taken away by ambulance.

As RNC officers performed their investigation one officer could be seen standing over a handgun lying on the sidewalk at the scene. There was also a cell phone on the ground just feet away. Police cordoned off the area and spoke to witnesses, including one man who told officers that he had recorded parts of the incident on an electronic device.

The RNC K-9 team forensic identification officers were also brought in to investigate the incident.

The RNC Tweeted that they were on the scene of a serious incident and asked motorists to avoid the area.


EARLIER STORY

One man is in critical condition as a result of a shooting that happened this evening in downtown St. John’s.

The incident happened at around 6:20 p.m. on Bond Street. RNC and ambulances are on the scene, where a gun remains on the ground at the intersection of St. David’s Lane and Bond Street.

The man injured was taken to hospital minutes ago.
