The RNC’s major crime unit is investigating a weapons offence in which a shot was reportedly fired during a Friday evening incident in St. John’s.

About 5 p.m. Friday, members of RNC responded to a report of a disturbance in the area of Keegan Court in St. John’s. Reports indicated there was an altercation between two men in the area, and there had been a shot fired.

The RNC canvassed the area and began processing the scene. Investigators were able to confirm a 38-year-old man had sustained a gunshot wound in the altercation, and the injury was non-life threatening.

This is not believed to be a random incident, and there is no perceived threat to the public. There have been no arrests made at this stage, as the investigation remains active.

Meantime, the RNC is also investigating a stabbing which occurred in the downtown area of St. John’s early Sunday morning.

At about 3:45 a.m. Sunday, members of RNC responded to a report of a disturbance in the area of Adelaide Street. A short time after arrival, officers located a 23-year-old man who had sustained injuries consistent with stab wounds. The man attended a hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Reports indicate that a verbal altercation occurred and a group of men then assaulted the victim and fled the area.

At this stage, there is no indication that the victim previously knew the group of men. There have not been any arrests made, as this investigation remains active.

The investigators in each case ask that anyone with information, or with CCTV or dash camera footage in the noted area, to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
