A 21-year-old man robbed a convenience store then assaulted a taxi driver before being arrested in St. John’s last night.
Just before midnight, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers responded to an armed robbery at a convenience store on Freshwater Road. The suspect had fled on foot before police arrived.
Roughly two hours later, the RNC was dispatched to a taxi driver being assaulted in the centre city area. Once on scene, police determined that the person responsible for the assault was also the individual suspected in the robbery.
He was arrested and brought to lockup awaiting in an appearance in court today to face charges of armed robbery, assault, and breaching several court orders.
The taxi driver suffered only minor injuries.
