Marystown couple charged with trafficking cocaine

MARYSTOWN, NL — A Marystown couple were arrested after police found a quantity of cocaine, a large sum of cash and other items consistent with drug trafficking.

Information filed by the RCMP with the provincial court in Grand Bank lists the identities of the accused as Brent Adams, 56, and Mazie Mitchell, 55.

According to a press release issued by Sgt. Mike Babstock, members of the RCMP's Federal Serious and Organized Crime Unit in Burin, with assistance from Marystown detachment, made the discovery while executing search warrants on a residence on Greenwood Street and a business in Marystown on Wednesday, May 23.

The couple appeared in provincial court in Grand Bank on Thursday, May 24 for a bail hearing and were released on a recognizance.

A number of conditions were placed on bail for both Adams and Mitchell, including that they remain in their residence between the hours of 11 p.m. to 7a.m. daily and present themselves at the door of their residence at any time at the request of a peace officer, except in accordance with their employment.

The couple will return to court on the morning of July 11.
