Members of the Marystown Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at the Kiewit Offshore Cow Head facility in Spanish Room earlier this evening, Dec. 16.

Fire Chief Alex Coady told The Southern Gazette personal at the facility called in at around 4 p.m. ti report a fire in the furnace room of the building.

“We responded with ladder 1, engine 3 and rescue 4—a crew of firefighters,” said the chief.

Coady explained the furnace room is located on the third floor of the facility. He said when they arrived on scene the room was filled with heavy smoke. Some smoke had also travelled through the ventilation system into other areas of the building.

He said the fire was contained to the furnace, and that there was no physical damage to the building.

Cody explained that they had the fire under controlled by 5:30p.m.

He said there were employees in the building at the time the fire started.

There were no injuries reported.
