Traffic is slowly moving at the intersection of Portugal Cove Road, Higgins Line and Newfoundland Drive as the result of a motorcycle accident just before 4:30 p.m.
The motorcyclist was seen lying on the ground getting treatment from bystanders awaiting the arrival of first responders from Eastern Health paramedics and St. John’s Regional Fire Department crews from Kent’s Pond fire station.
He was later placed on a spine board as a precaution before being placed in the ambulance and taken to hospital by paramedics.
The RNC accident investigation team are currently on scene conducting an investigation. Southbound traffic cannot access Higgins Line while police complete their investigation and the debris is removed from the road.
The car received extensive damage to the front passenger side, while the bike was destroyed.
Motorists can expect traffic delays in all directions until the bike and car are removed from the scene.
