Prior to 7 p.m., upwards of 60 people were standing on the deck waiting for the start of bingo.
That's when the boards could be heard cracking before the deck fully collapsed.
"We were standing up ... the next thing we heard the crack," said witness Jennifer Edmunds. "Within two seconds, everyone was down. The steps just completely gave away beneath us."
Shortly thereafter, paramedics and firefighters from nearby Bay de Grave Volunteer Fire Department were at the scene attending to the injured.
It is reported eight to nine people sustained injuries in the accident. Bay Roberts RCMP said the injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The Bay Roberts RCMP, along with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety division are continuing an investigation into the incident.
Many of the people were there for the large jackpot up for grabs.
"Normally, on Wednesday night you can go and come as you please," said Edmunds.
More than half-a-dozen ambulances left the scene headed for hospital with the last leaving the scene just before 8 p.m. Wednesday.
