A dramatic crash in downtown St. John’s Friday night saw an SUV slam into two parked cars and flip upside-down on Water Street.

The collision happened at about 9 p.m. when the westbound SUV struck a parked car and drove it into a second parked car at the intersection of Water Street and Springdale Street. The SUV then overturned and came to rest on its roof about twenty meters away.

The driver of the SUV was able to climb out of his vehicle without assistance. He was later checked by Eastern Health paramedics but was uninjured.

A fourth vehicle also appeared to have been damaged during the incident. Traffic was diverted for about thirty minutes until the scene could be cleared.

The SUV and first parked car sustained extensive damage while the other two vehicles only appeared to have minor damage.

The RNC is investigating the incident.
