St. John’s Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O’Leary says engineering students from Memorial University will research and do a structural analysis on a Bowring Park bridge, engineered by Ove Arup.

O’Leary says Rick Tiller of Memorial University put forward a proposal for the students to research and inspect the historical bridge.

At no cost to taxpayers, the students will provide a report at the end of their research.

For now, the students’ work will focused on analysis, not restoration.

“This is an asset to our community. It’s something that is certainly worthy of restoring,” O’Leary said.
