MARYSTOWN, N.L.

Rachel Cousins was among the performers highlighted during the Newfoundland Music Showcase held as part of the Live at Heart Newfoundland Global Music Business Conference.

The inaugural event kicked off on Wednesday, Oct. 10 and runs through to the 14th.

Cousins, who lives in St. John’s with her parents Wayne and Hilda Cousins, who grew up in Point May, viewed the conference is an opportunity to open the door for her outside of the province.

“There’s so many different people here, they (organizers) said that almost every continent is represented here…just in this room,” she explained to The Southern Gazette. “So when you think about it, just the massive amount of people that are representing the industry, there’s just so many opportunities if you talk to the right person you could end up travelling and playing your music in other places.”

Cousins was looking forward to taking part in Jeff Bova’s “Unleash Your Creativity” workshop. She was also looking forward to the music.

"A whole bunch of different musicians I’m excited to be watching and seeing,” she said.

Other local acts performing at the showcase were John Saunders of Burin and Grand Bank trio Skidderpup.
