ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The Used Oil Management Association launched the province’s new extended producer responsibility program to recycle used oil and glycol in St. John’s Wednesday.
The event took place at Steele Honda on Kenmount Road.
Last year the provincial government introduced a new regulation for the safe disposal and recycling of used oil and glycol products in the province. The Used Oil and Management Association (UOMA) Atlantic has been approved by the province’s Multi-Materials Stewardship Board to manage and deliver a program on behalf of producers in Newfoundland and Labrador.
A news release states that under the new regulation, UOMA-Atlantic will have collectors travel throughout the province to collect used oil and glycol, oil filters, and used oil and glycol containers, including lubricating aerosols and brake cleaners.
There is no cost to the business.
The program is intended to redirect the disposal of these products from landfills, and recycle them.
UOMA-Atlantic is a non-profit organization established by the producers of oil and glycol products to manage the collection and recycling of their products from the point of production to the end-of-life treatment.
