Torbay volunteer fire department chief Mike McGrath says they received the call at about 5:40 p.m. after a neighbour noticed the house next door was on fire. McGrath added that the two-storey home on Dunphy’s Lane was fully engulfed when the two stations arrived on scene.
Firefighters set up attack lines and were able to battle the blaze from both inside and outside the house, cutting ventilation holes in the roof and using a fan to clear smoke from the home.
There was no one home at the time of the fire but the homeowner did return as firefighters were trying to extinguish the blaze.
No cause has been determined and there were no injuries.
