Newfoundland and Labrador has 38 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Feb. 20, all in Eastern Health region

Twenty of the cases moved from the presumptive list; 21 recoveries reported

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Newfoundland and Labrador has 38 new confirmed cases of COVD-19 and for a second straight day, more than half the new cases are among those which previously been tagged as “presumptive”

All 38 cases are in the Eastern Health region and involve 21 females and 17 males.

Twenty of them had been presumptive cases originally identified through rapid testing and since confirmed at the provincial laboratory.

The Saturday COVID-19 update from the provincial Department of Health says there are still a half-dozen presumptive cases awaiting confirmation, with three of them having been reported since Friday.

No matter whether they are confirmed or presumptive cases, they are treated the same by Public Health officials; individuals involved are advised to self-isolate. anyone considered a close contact is advised to quarantine and contact tracing gets underway.

Since Friday, there have been 21 new recoveries in the Eastern Health region, meaning 460 people in the province have recovered from the virus since the start of the pandemic. Two individuals are in hospital.

Saturday’s numbers mean there are 434 active cases in Newfoundland and Labrador, with 427 of them are in the Eastern Health region. There are four in Central Health and three in Western.

The latest daily testing numbers are around 3,000, meaning 106,829 people have been tested in the province to date.
