ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The latest Angus Reid premier performance ranking indicates that Newfoundlanders and Labradors are about 50-50 on incumbent premier and Liberal Party Leader Andrew Furey.
An online poll conducted by the non-profit research foundation between Feb. 26 and March 3 found that while 45 per cent of respondents approved of Furey, just as many disapproved. Meanwhile, 10 per cent of respondents indicated they're not sure.
Furey polled 53 per cent in December and 34 per cent last August.
The survey does note that the province is in the throes of "an unorthodox election" and says Furey has endured criticism for the winter election call. Respondents from N.L. were also asked if they would consider the election legitimate, regardless of the outcome, with 36 per cent saying it would be illegitimate.
The most-approved premier is British Columbia's John Horgan, who has the support of two-thirds of his electorate, while Ian Rankin, only sworn into office three days before the poll began, was sitting in last at 31 per cent behind Manitoba’s Brian Pallister (36 per cent) and Alberta’s Jason Kenney (39). That said, 51 per cent of Nova Scotians indicated they have no opinion.
