NLC announces results of contraband cannabis investigations

The Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation (NLC) announced Friday results of its work on a number of contraband cannabis seizures and investigations.

On Friday, the NLC’s Regulatory Compliance and Enforcement Department, with the assistance of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and postal inspectors, seized items from a home in Conception Bay South under a search warrant.

A resident was arrested and released pending the ongoing investigation.

The amount of cannabis seized includes: 2.9 kg of fresh cannabis; 0.655 kg of dried cannabis; 2.2 kg of cannabis hash; 0.072 kg of cannabis edibles.

On Oct. 28, a search was commenced under search warrant of a residence in Torbay.

A resident was arrested and held in custody on unrelated matters, while an investigation is ongoing.

Total of cannabis and items seized include: $2,220 in cash; and 14.9 kg of dried cannabis.

Also on Nov. 1, a search warrant was issued in respect to another residence in Conception Bay South.

A resident was arrested and released pending ongoing investigation.

A total of cannabis and items seized includes: 6.8 kg of dried cannabis; 2.24 kg of cannabis concentrate; and a vehicle.

Sean Ryan, NLC’s vice-president of Regulatory Services and Social Responsibility, says, “we will continue to work with our partners to disrupt the illicit cannabis market. NLC wishes to remind the public that Licensed Cannabis Retailers and ShopCannabisNL.com remain the only legal means by which to purchase non-medical cannabis in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
