ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — CannTrust products are not available in Ontario, but can still be bought in Newfoundland and Labrador, following non-compliance issues with Health Canada.

On Wednesday, Bloomberg News reported CannTrust had put a number of its products on hold in warehouses, pending an investigation by Health Canada. It’s unclear precisely what issues are present, until the investigation concludes.

While the product is on hold in Ontario, Darrell Smith of the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corp. (NLC) says no similar holds are in place in this province.

Smith says Health Canada has not issued a recall due to safety, rather it’s a measure taken by the company.

“Health Canada has not imposed any product recalls or placed product on hold that have met Health Canada quality assurance requirements at this time. CannTrust has placed any affected product on hold while they work through licensing concerns,” Smith wrote in a statement.

“NLC will continue to monitor the situation and will advise the public if anything changes.”
