No serious injuries in motorcycle, school bus accident

DEER LAKE, N.L. — DEER LAKE

A 13-year-old female passenger on a motorcycle that collided with a school bus on Monday, Aug. 12 near Birchy Narrows was taken to hospital in Corner Brook.

Cpl. Dave Cooper of the Deer Lake RCMP said the passenger was not believed to have any injuries but taken there to get checked out as a precautionary measure.

He said the accident was reported to police about 4 p.m. and they responded, along with Traffic Services Western, ambulances from Deer Lake and Hampden and a Transportation and Works Highway Enforcement officer, who did an inspection on the bus at the scene.

Cooper there were no students on the bus at the time of the accident, which occurred on a turn where the motorcycle, driven by a 46-year-old woman, and the bus were both travelling at a low speed.

The driver of the motorcycle received medical attention at the scene and the bus driver was not injured.
