KELLIGREWS, N.L. — A boy’s wish came true on Saturday afternoon.
Leeland Hill, 9, met his great grandmother, Betty Thorne, 90.
Leeland was recently diagnosed with focal pontine/mid-brain high grade glioma, a terminal brain condition. The Children’s Wish Foundation granted him a wish, and his was simple: to meet his great-grandmother.
He travelled with his family from Dartmouth, N.S. to throw a “pretty party” for his “Great Granny” at Admiral’s Coast Retirement Centre in Kelligrews.
Family and friends gathered at a reception room decorated with balloons and flowers. There was live music, dancing, and plenty of food.
Leeland and Thorne embraced when they met, then sat side-by-side while they were greeted by party-goers, many of whom brought gifts.
Leeland said he felt excited and happy to finally meet his Great Granny.
Thorne smiled and said she felt overwhelmed.
“I couldn’t get over it because there are so many things he could wish for,” she said.
The party was a private event, but anyone who would like to share in Leeland’s wish is invited to another celebration in Bowring Park on Monday from noon to 2 p.m.
The Children’s Wish Foundation is hosting Leeland’s Puppy Party in the Park for dogs of all breeds and ages, and everyone is invited.
