You would be hard pressed to go anywhere in town this week and not hear talk of the Olympic games or a mention of Marystown native Kaetlyn
Osmond.
The 22-year-old, who makes her home in Edmonton, is set to perform tonight, hitting the ice between 1-1:30 a.m. Newfoundland time.
Businesses and community groups are getting in on the Olympic fever sweeping the town, with a number of events planned around Osmond’s performance in the short program.
The Town of Marystown will hold a “Skate with Kaetlyn” event at the Kaetlyn Osmond Arena tonight beginning with a rally at 6 p.m. and a performance by the Ice Crystals Figure Skating Club, the club where Kaetlyn got her start.
Later in the evening there will be a free skate, a marshmallow roast, music and a live feed of the Olympics.
Sacred Heart Academy in Marystown is also holding Olympic-related events this week, starting with a torch run through the school. Two students from each grade level were selected as Olympic torch bearers.
Events at the school will conclude next Monday with the extinguishing of the Olympic flame.
