One woman was sent to hospital Sunday afternoon after her car left the road and overturned on the Trans-Canada Highway near Soldiers Pond just before 2 p.m.
The car appears to have gone into the median from the eastbound lane and collided with the embankment for the westbound lane before coming to a stop.
When the Telegram arrived on scene, the woman was sitting on the shoulder of the road and being taken care of by St. John’s Regional firefighters and Fewer’s ambulance paramedics.
Traffic was slowed and backed-up about a kilometer in both directions as emergency officials tended to the scene. It was raining and roads were wet at the time of the incident.
