A fire in Conception Bay South left the rear of a home burned and blackened early Wednesday morning but there were no injuries.
The fire was reported by residents of the house on Denford Estates in Chamberlains just before midnight Tuesday and when firefighters with the Conception Bay South fire department arrived on scene, they found the back of the home near the back deck was smoking had been burned to the roof. They quickly deployed an attack line to hose down the area and had the fire completely out within minutes but not before the damage was done.
C.B.S. Fire chief John Heffernan said the blaze could have been worse but a resident had used a fire extinguisher and water to fight the fire until firefighters arrived.
There were several people and pets in the home at the time but there were no injuries.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating.
